Risk Analysis Software: COBRA

Business impact analysis (sometimes called BIA) and risk analysis are often seen as pre-requisites to creation of a disaster recovery plan.

The argument here is that  it is essential to understand the actual threats that could lead to the disaster situation before this scenario can be planned for. Equally, it is important to have at least some appreciation of the scale of loss for each potential disaster scenario.

The problem is, of course, that this is a complex area. Assessment of risk and impact is a complex science, often requiring substantial expertise.

SUPPORTING SOFTWARE

To ease this process therefore, sophisticated software solutions are available. Unfortunately, many of these are complex in themselves, partially defeating their own objective.

This certainly does not apply to COBRA, however. This is a long established risk analysis product and method, designed very much to simplify the risk analysis process itself. 

Like the other tools offered on this site, it is very widely used. According to the developers, it is now in active use in over 30 countries, and again. may well be the best selling product in this market.

In addition to risk analysis, COBRA also embraces a number of other related functions, for example compliance with the international security standard, ISO 17799.
